NOAAPort SBN Expansion Update – 9/24/14

To all Unisys NOAAPort Users:

 

The NWS has reported that the termination of the “old” NOAAPort downlink will occur on Tuesday, September 30th at 8:00 pm EDT (0000 UTC 10/1/14). At that time, the available bandwidth on NOAAPort will increase from the current 30Mbps to 70Mbps. The NWS has scheduled the operational dissemination of the High Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) model also on September 30, 2014 (see http://www.nws.noaa.gov/os/notification/tin14-32hrrr_oper.htm for details).

 

All NOAAPort users should be transitioned over to the frequency before that time. Instructions on accessing and verifying the new NOAAPort frequency are below. Any questions or issues should be directed to: technical-support@weather.unisys.com

 

Unisys is also currently working with several users seeing above average frame losses on the new frequency. If you are seeing excessive frame loss on the new frequency, please contact technical-support@weather.unisys.com

NOAA GOES-13 Resumes as GOES-East on June 10, 2013

NOAA has switched GOES-East operations back to GOES-13 at 15:45 UTC on June 10, 2013. Users of Unisys NOAAPort receive systems and users of satellite data from WeatherMax will see the updated imagery. For additional information, please refer to NOAA’s Satellite Products and Services Division.

NOAA to return to GOES-13 as GOES-East on June 6, 2013

NOAA satellite engineers have successfully restored GOES-13 and will bring back GOES-13 as the operational GOES-East satellite on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at approximately 1545 UTC. GOES-14, located over 105W, has been acting as GOES-East since a significant navigation anomaly was suffered by GOES-13 on May 22. NOAA GOES-East (GOES-13) Anomaly

NOAA is experiencing a significant anomaly with the GOES-East (GOES-13) imager and sounder. Sounder imagery stopped as of 9/23 1126 UTC, imager stopped as of 9/23 2122 UTC. GOES-West (GOES-15) has been placed in 30-minute Full Disk mode to cover the outage. In addition, NOAA is transmitting GOES-West (GOES-15) GVAR through the GOES-East (GOES-13) downlink. Unisys NOAAPORT and satellite data customers will see data from GOES-West until further notice. Effects include reduced coverage of the Atlantic Ocean and colder cloud tops off of the Eastern US (due to low scanning angle from GOES-West).
