Issues with Hurricane and Typhoon Tracks

Unisys is aware that we are having issues with the parsing and display of the tropical points and forecasts in all basins, as well as archived storms. We have installed an updated version of the parsing software that while fully tested, is seeing issues with changes in the bulletins. Please note that official track and forecast information is available from JTWC or NOAA

Global GFS Issue

Due to NOAA’s recent upgrade of the global GFS model made on July 19 (http://www.nws.noaa.gov/os/notification/scn17-67gfsupgradeaab.htm), the Unisys EU, EA, SA, and AUS plots have not been updating. Unisys is investigating and will have these plots updated starting Monday, July 24.

Missing NAM Forecast Plots

Unisys Weather is aware of missing or broken plots on the NAM Winter Forecasts and Miscellaneous Forecasts plots. This is due to a recent change by NOAA/NWS which resulted in the removal of some legacy NAM grids from their distribution (see TIN at: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/os/notification/tin16-41nam_updatesaac.htm )

Unisys Weather is working to restore these plots using alternate grids. We appreciate your patience!

GOES-16 Products for Unisys NOAAPort Users

GOES-16 (GOES-R) Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) sectorized cloud and moisture imagery (SCMI) will be available via NOAAPort starting at around 18:00 UTC on Thursday, March 2. The products, in netCDF 4 format, should be accessible via the GRE channel (PID 108) with the most recent Unisys NOAAPort version 9.4 or 9.5. Users still needing to download and install Unisys NOAAPort 9.4 (for CentOS/RHEL 5 or 6) or 9.5 (for CentOS/RHEL 7) should contact Unisys at technical-support@weather.unisys.com .

GOES-16 NOAA derived products (volcanic ash, cloud top height, SST, etc) will not be sent through NOAAPort SBN, except for a small period of testing at a later date. GOES-16 Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) will also not be transmitted via NOAAPort SBN. Customers interested in these products including additional ABI products or sectors can contact Unisys at sales-support@weather.unisys.com for ingesting these products into your Unisys NOAAPort Gateway via LDM and/or the Unisys C-Band satellite channel.

NWS NOAAPort and IDP Outage

Unisys Weather is monitoring an outage of both the NOAAPort SBN distribution and the IDP landline services from NWS. The outage began around 18:15 UTC and we have confirmed that other NOAAPort vendors and sites are also seeing the outage. NWS did switch their NOAAPort uplink from the backup site in Fairmont, WV to the primary site in New York today at 15:30 UTC (due to signal issues with the northeast snowstorm). Unisys has been in contact with NWS and is monitoring the situation.

Update 19:30 UTC: The NOAAPort and NEXRAD Level 3 LDM services are still down from NWS. However, Unisys is still receiving all text data (forecasts, watches, warnings, etc) as well as the National Digital Forecast Database (NDFD grids) and Multi Radar Multi Sensor (MRMS) products from the landline connections with NWS IDP.
