Flash Flood Watch issued September 19 at 3:42AM MDT expiring September 20 at 6:00AM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM

The Flash Flood Watch continues for * a portion of north and central New Mexico, including the following areas: Central Highlands, Eastern Lincoln County, Estancia Valley, Lower Rio Grande Valley, Middle Rio Grande Valley including the Albuquerque Metro Area, Sandia and Manzano Mountains, South Central Highlands, South Central Mountains, Southwest Chaves County, Upper Tularosa Valley, West Central Highlands, West Central Mountains and West Central Plateau. * from this evening through late tonight * An abrupt surge of subtropical moisture is expected into much of western and central New Mexico this evening and tonight. This will lead to scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms, many of which will be capable of producing locally heavy rainfall. * High rainfall rates over short durations will likely lead to excessive runoff in many areas, and this could lead to flash flooding in localized areas. Repeated movement of storms over the same areas will escalate the flash flooding threat. Wildfire burn scars will be especially susceptible to flash flooding.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

This will lead to scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms, many of which will be capable of producing locally heavy rainfall. * High rainfall rates over short durations will likely lead to excessive runoff in many areas, and this could lead to flash flooding in localized areas. Repeated movement of storms over the same areas will also escalate the flash flooding threat. Wildfire burn scars will be especially susceptible to flash flooding, including the Buzzard wildfire burn scar.
